This is a photograph from a Series of Photographs held by the Imperial War Museum showing life in Wotton Under Edge in 1944. Here we meet Mr G F May typesetter for the local newspaper and a parish councillors and “ardent trade unionist”.

A portrait of Mr G E May at work setting type in the local newspaper offices in Wotton-under-Edge. Mr May has been a wartime member of the Parish Council since 1942 and works as a compositor at the newspaper. He is chairman of the Friendly Society and, according to the original caption is “an ardent Trade Unionist”.
